this doesn't sound good!!
I seem to be developing a new problem here, any time i have the wheels turned (in either direction) while accelerating, I get a "ratcheting" noise comming from my left front wheel. My shock on that corner is shot, but I don't think that's the problem (although it could be what caused the problem.) I looked under there and don't see anything the tire could be rubbing on, and the cv boot's not ripped so i cant "see" any probs w/ the cv joint, but I'm kinda guessing that's what it is. Can anyone confirm this?
Also, I'm thinking of swapping in an si motor and trans if I can find one cheap enough, my blocks shot, I'm tired of no power, and It's gonna take for ever to save up for a b-series. So, Is there an axle setup that works w/ the d-series blocks that has an intermediate shaft so i don't have as much torque steer? and if there is, am I going to have to change the hubs to si ones to make them work?

if it makes the noise while turning to the right, its your left CV joint and to the left your rigth CV joint. I think that's the problem anyways, i just replaced mine and they were roughly $80 a piece.
Could be the wheel bearing, I had a similar sound with no visible CV joint problems. Turned out to be the left wheel bearing was seized and made a hell of a noise while turning. Especially turning right, all the weight transferred to the left side of the vehicle and it was very annoying.
Hope this helps,
Good luck !

Its your CV joint, almost for sure. However, you might not have to change it out right yet... They start making a lot of noise before they actually are real bad. I know people who have gotten almost 8,000 miles or more on a joint that was clicking. Then again, I know people who have gone only 10, so check it like this:
Put your car in the air, on jackstands. Then grab the shaft of the axle and try shaking it. It shouldn't ahve a lot of play in it at all. If it does, then you should o buy a new one.
And if you have never changed an axle before, I'll give you a quick tip: make sure you are gentle and don't tear the seals on the tranny where the axle plugs in - losing you tranny fluid will ruin your dirving experience quite fast.

I'll add something to my last post... A good axle should have almost NO play in it at all. Even a little is kinda bad. But if it wiggles back and forth more than a few millimeters, get a new one.
I mean, come on, its your axle: not something to fool around with. Defiantely one of those impoartant parts of your car.

thx for the info guys. It just seemed wierd to me that it only makes noise while accelerating, not while coasting or decelerating. And it makes the noise while turning in both directions, not just one.
Nobody has sugestions for an equal length axle swap? I hate to spend the $ for new stock axles only to have to change them out later. Maybee I'll just sell my soul for a b-series engine swap now so I don't have to do this twice.
