i have a 95 civic ex and was wondering if i would notice a difference if i was to swap a integra gsr rack and pinion into it? does anyone know the ratios for the stock civic one and the integra gsr one?

I really don't think it matters too much. Mostly, the power racks in the 'tegs and Civics have better ratios than the manual racks. Other than that, not too much difference. I've read (in an old edition of SCC) that the ITR has a better ratio than the other cars. I do know that it has a different p/n from Honda, so that would lead me to believe it. Also, the 99 and 00 Si is supposed to have a slightly better ratio, but I could not tell a difference. I replaced my 96 CX rack with one from an EX and it was noticeable, but I really couldn't feel any difference between it and my 99 Si.

Depends on what you are looking for from your steering. You can get better turn in by giving it a little toe out in front. Tighten up both ball joints to give yourself a little more steering friction(just a little tighter then spec), replace bushings to reduce rack movement, loosen the rack adjustment then tighten it back slightly tighter than where it was before (line up a simple mark and go a little past it when you tighten in back up). The ratio should be fine, but there are things you can do to help response and feedback that can hopefully satisfy your driving needs without replacing the rack.

Don't touch your toe, you'll just wear the tires off. Caster is the angle that has the biggest effect on steering.

 

Honda's spec for toe is +/- 2mm. 2mm of toe won't affect tire wear, but it gets magnified slightly by the ackerman angle and can help turn in. Caster isn't adjustable on the double wishbone suspensions, but it does have a huge effect on steering. It helps the "on-center feeling", helps the rack center itself as you unwind the wheel out of a turn and it helps gain negative camber in a turn to use the tire contact patch better. Sucks that its not really adjustable on the Civics.

i did this 4 years ago. dc2 rack is a direct swap for the 92-95 p/s eg racks. eg rack has 3 p/s lines, dc2 has 2. you eliminate one of them. ratios are as follows:

16:1 (2.98) 94-01 Integra GSR/LS/ITR
17.5:1 (3.58) 92-95 Civic p/s rack
17.7:1 (3.6) 96-00 Civic p/s rack
19:1 (3.88) 92-95 Civic Manual Rack
20.3:1 (4.1) 96-00 Civic Manual Rack

as you can see, the dc2 rack is the fastest fwd rack that is easily installed.

yes, kept the p/s. there is a small line, smaller then the other two oon the eg rack, i forget which one it was, but you iirc it was smaller diamter thread, and would not work in the dc2 rack at all. pretty simple stuff.

Oh, just thought of something else. The coupler between the column and the steering rack is different on manuals and power models, at least in the EK. The column spline count is the same for both, but the input shaft to the racks are different sizes. So if you want to change from power to manual or vise-versa you will need to get the u-joint at the end of the column as well.

One of the loop mounts for the rack is different between p/s and non racks in the EG. The p/s rack is larger in diameter and thus you might want to either swap subframes with a car that has p/s, or figure a way to simply add the larger mount on your subframe.

I went backwards and threw a non p/s rack on my 1992 Si HB and I had to devise a spacer/thicker bushing to compensate the smaller non p/s rack in the larger diameter p/s loop mount on the subframe.
