Default Whining noise near valve cover

Ive done numerous searches on this topic and it seems like my case is always a little bit defferent. I get a whining noise which sounds like its coming from near the power steering pump area and the valve cover. It only starts to make this noise after the engine has been running for 20 mins+. Its not the P/S pump, and im pretty sure its not the alternator because i pulled it out and the bearings seems ok. However this is a hard problem to pinpoint because it only does it while the engine is hot.. so after its hot and the engine is at idle, it wont make a sound but as soon as it hits 1500rpm and beyond it makes this whining noise. If i could describe it in anyway i could compare it to the sound of a dremel or a drill. Its not a grinding sound. Does anyone have any idea what this is? Im going insane trying to figure it out. Ive been on almost every forum trying to read if anyone else has had this same problem but it seems to be only me!! The engine is a JDM h22a freshly swapped in. Thanks for any help i can get..

I dont see it being a belt because it only does this when its hot, and above 1500 rpms. Any other opinions welcome.

Get a piece of pipe or something else long and hollow and listen through it to pinpoint the location of the whine. I use the handle to my car jack

this is a bit of a shot in the dark but try replacing the PCV valve with a new one. some times they can make a little buzzing sound when they get old.

Ive done the wooden handle trick/plastic hose trick/metal rod trick, its very deceptive!! I highly doubt its the PCV valve, the sound is directly related to revving the engine. What am i lookin at here? Tearing the engine down?

why would you tear a engine down because of a whinning noise. lets think about this. what could possibly make a whinning noise on the inside of the engine....only noises that could come from the engine is a knocking, pinging, and boom. but if you want to tear it down go for it.

Ive heard everything from timing belts-balancer shafts-b/s belts- bearings- tensioners- rockers.... Its all a little bit disscouraging. I just want a solution to this problem. Everyone so far that i have talked to has not seen this(or heard for that matter) before. I did not mean dissasemble the entire engine. What i meant was am i looking at taking the items listed above and just replacing them??? I dont want to do this. I want to know what the problem is first, then get the parts and fix it. I just need a little guidance in the right dirrection. Thx

I used to have a whisteling noise around the same area as well. I ended replacing the gasket on the joint where the exhaust manifold runs from 4 pipes into two. I think when the car heats up the gasket doesn't seal properly and then makes the whistle sound, which i think was the valves! You can check the area around this gasket to see if there is any carbon that's visible around the joint. It should be rusty right around it which makes the black carbon easy to identify. If you have an aftemarket exhaust manifold then it might not be the problem but its always an option to check anyway. One other thing that i did notice with mine was that the car became really sluggish when warm due to it blowing out ever so slightly. Good luck with sorting it out.

i say check your drive belts. mine also does it after i installed my headers because i was missing a gasket. but ya it should either be drive belt or exhaust.

sounds like a turbo though
