Default Car is down!! Need help please!!

Alright here's what happen with my 90' civic hatch. I was driving around for about 5-10 mins and then all of a sudden my car just shuts down my brakes lock and everything and i try starting it again and it started for about 5 seconds then it just shutted off again. So i pulled over to the side tried starting it again nothing happend no crank no nothing. And before i drove around there was squeking noise coming from the belt area. So please if anyone out there knows or thinks they know what could be the problem would be helpfull. NEED HELP ASAP!! Please and Thanks...

did you inspect the belt carefully? You could have stripped some teeth, which would kill the motor, but the belt would still look intact. I've seen this happen on a couple of cars.

yeah, um, if you "believe" the timing belt is still there, then I would check that if I were you. Thats a pretty important piece of the motor. And yes, the belt could have stripped, or even jumped a couple teeth.

not only that if the belt jumped and the cam turned u coulda bent a valve. but like everyone else said check the belt. Id replace it altogether. set the cam with the up mark on the sproket pointing straight up then bring #1 piston to tdc(top dead center). put new belt on and tighten the tensionor not to tight or u could snap the cam and itll make a really annoying humming sound. thats my thoughts hope it helps. ask if u need nething else.
