speedo shorted out
I was driving the other day in a crazy storm and then out of nowhere the speedo goes out and the lights both inside and outside the car start to dim then brighten. the motor is also now inconsistent in power. later i checked and found that the fuse sorted on both my speedometer. Do you think this could be an alternator issue?

Do other things fade in/out , such as your climate control lights? May be a loose ground, but alternator is not out of the question, that could be the problem.
How many miles on the motor?
How many miles on the motor?
the climate controls also fade in and out and just about anything else electrical on the car...........the motor has about 170,000 miles on it.

Alternator.
Same thing happened to me with my 96 civic coupe. I would have never figured it out, luckly my brother works for honda and said that there was a bulletin on this. Turns out , the protective coating on the harness under the intake manifold wore off from the engine moving back and forth and eventually shorted the circut that controled the speed and o2 sensor. Just get some black tape or wire loom and wrap it again.
