5g Prelude Ground Point
Hey guys. We put a amp in my friend's 97 Prelude and we've got awful whine. I'm about 90% sure it's a ground problem because it comes through both his front component speakers (those and the sub are powered by the amp). I think the problem is the ground point. We drilled a small hole in the trunk floor. So where do you guys ground your amps too?
scrape away the paint around where you are grounding your amp and run a screw into the floor. also make sure your power wire is not running next to your rca's, and a better set of rca's will help because of added shielding.
The patch cables run down the center console and the power wire runs down the passenger side floor. I'll try scraping the paint away and see if that helps at all. Thanks.
ground cables should always be as short as possible. If you didn't scrape the paint away, you don't have a good ground. Really cheap RCA's are more prone to allow interference (the really expensive ones aren't a silver bullet though). If I'm putting an amp in the trunk, 90% of the time I ground it to the wheel well. If you've checked/changed everything else you could still have a problem inside the amp.
