Default d16y8/d15b7 build

I bought a d15b7 full block from a friend for cheap. I plan on swapping on a y8 head. I know how to do the mini me process. So thats all covered.

I want to build the bottom end up on the d15b7. I heard that the b18a1 connecting rods could only work if it was in a d16. So thats out of the question.

Im trying to figure out what rods would work really well. Im leaning towards going forged.

Also the pistons. I know I should get 12/1 compression ones but what brand do you guys normally go with?

Im going to use the stock crank. Is there anything I need to do to the crank besides polishing it?

Next, I want to do a mild build on the head. Like a three angle valve job, cam, cam gear, valve springs, retainers. Would there be anything else needed.

If I could get some help and decent answers that would be great.

Also if you guys could post up some setups.

Ive already went through half of the sohc thread, but I need more info.

Thanks.

Get a D16 block.

Rods options are limited for the D15. If you keep the stock pistons and put a cam in it, you're in for problems.

Your statement is awfully wrong. Their is tons of mini me setups. Im just asking what type of pistons and rods should I be using for this.

well with my all motor b i used je pistons and eagle h-beams. if ur gonna build it up i would reccomend getting the crank balanced and well the whole bottom end balanced.

if ur gonna do all that work to the head u might as well get a port on it. the sohc heads dont flow too well stock so opening up the bowls and the ports wouldnt be a bad idead especially if ur gonna run an aftermarket cam.

Thanks alot. How much would an average port and polish run for a sohc. I know on the b-series its expensive since im a b owner as well.

well it depends on whose doing the porting. i know if u send it to head games ull spend about 600 on a port. but if u just bring it to a machine shop ull probably spend about 400

No. Rod options ARE limited for the D15. Put a big cam in a head that has bigger valves as well as the valves being closed to the side of the head and tell me you won't have problems.

How would I have probelms?. I know the d15 is limited to rod choices. How would I have probelms if it has been done over and over again. This setup is just like doing an ls/vtec on a b-series.

If I cant get better rods, then ill have to buy new stock rods and have them shot peened.

Also in case I do run in to some probelms where can I get a d16 short block?

Valve reliefs are smaller as well as in a different location. Assuming you deck it to get compression, you'll run into problems with a cam.

New rods is just as bad as used rods. The rods are weak as are the rod bolts. You can get a D16 block just about anywhere. I got one for free once from a VW shop that was moving and had one.
