my questions are, whats the difference between normal VTEC, and i-VTEC...

also, when VTEC hits, what exacly opens the valves more, does the cam drop... or does it have other lobes that it switche out when oil pressure gets higher?

i HAVE looked up VTEC info on wikipedia, but its in smart people language, and as u can tell, im an idiot... i need someone to dumb it out for me please

The "i" in ivtec stands for intelligent. Honda engineers found that the original VTEC was retarded and came out with a more intellgent system.

I believe that the only difference is that the i-VTEC has a switchover point (RPM) that changes depending on engine load, when the regular VTEC switchover point is fixed.

so meaning.... if u slowly rev up the motor, i-vtec wont engage, but if u floor it at a low rpm, itll engage at a low rpm as soon as it realizes u wanna go fast?

... and normal vtec will engage at say.... 5500 rpm either way if u floor it or get there slowly?

You would be correct, except that the point on the regular VTEC is usually lower than 5500, it's 4800 on my D16 for example

My explanation is a bit brief though, it really does depend on a lot more than that, but in a nutshell that is what is going on. Once you learn a little more, go back and check out wikipedia.

The 'I' in Ivtec represents the ability of the cams to adjust the cam angle. Are you familiar with 'adjustable cam gears'? Well, Ivtec does this constantly as the ECU sees fit for the motor to do so. Generally this happens at higher RPM's. I hope this helps.

That should help... This is an explanation of older VTEC technology. Meaning on D16, B16, and B18C motors...

The second vid describes i-VTEC...
