Ring trouble...
I think i have bad rings in my D15A7 and I want replace them. I don't really feel like pulling my engine to change them, so I came up with an alternative that I think will work. If I break my engine down the the point where i can remove the head then I will be able to see the pistons. Them I'm going to remove the oil pan and expose the crankshaft. I'll then remove the connecting rod end caps and slip the pistons out through the top. I was wonder what people's thoughts on this was and any tip and hits to help me on the way through. While i'm at it I was wondering how hard it would be to get the crank out from this point so I could get me bearings to swap in.

You do know that you are going to have to remove your flywheel and crank pulley to get the crank out right? Why not just pull the motor out, put it on a stand and remove everything you need? I couldnt imagine trying to remove the main caps while laying on my back
I haven't got the money for a D16. Main caps on my back is no problem. pull the two bolts of them. put the bolts back in the cap but don't thread them. sqeeze the bolt ends like a pair of plyers and wiggle. Pop... they're out. I think pulling the engine is too much hasle for what it's worth engine stand. engine crane. trany... so on. I just want new rings.

Might as well, because by the time you remove the axles and tranny to get to the flywheel, and have to remove the timing belt cover and crank pulley to drop the crank on top of removing the head... you might as well loosen up a few mounts and disconnect some plugs and just pull the SOB out.

yes sir if ur gonna hve the motor in the car its gonna be more of apin in the *** and ur gonna get fed up with it. and plus if ur spending the time tearing the whole motor apart it would be easer to buy a swap off here for liek 800 bucsk then ahve fun with the vtec.. too much hassel and time rebuilding stock motors.

If you know anyone with a hoist/stand then pull it. If you are mechanically inclined at all you'll be able to pull it in a day easily. I've pulled my motor in a matter of a couple of hours before. It'll make the ring job 10000x easier and you'll be able to take your time and better see what you're doing. This is a job you don't want to rush or do half-assed. I actually bought my own stand and hoist from pep boys for less than $200 combined. I've used them several times already. That's my recommendation.
