so i was jus looking around for a turbo kit for my D16Y8 and out of all the kits i have found this one seems to be the most complete and best bang for the buck im in no place to buy a kit as it stands now but when i get the money i wanna know what im doing. So my question is has anyone used this kit and what can you tell me about it...also what other kits are worth researching. thanks for any input

It is a good kit, but I think if you took the time you have to save money and also did some research as to your whp goals etc, that you could piece together a kit for cheaper /w brand new parts

i was shooting for around 250whp...the main thing i want is reliability of the car it is a DD. i know ill probably have to do some head work and replace my rods and pistons but that is all down the road. where would be a good site to go and piece together a kit?

 

just look in the classified sections of honda sites. there's alot of people going this route nowadays and lots of different parts for sale. if you are patient enough and look around you will get the best prices. homemadeturbo.com is a good site. but i think you have to register for the site in order to get into the classified forums. just depends on what you want to spend really. there's lots of people on that site that have d-series turbo's that are insane. my buddy's building one right now!

 

**** if all u want is 250whp then get a 96-98 jdm spec b16a2(SiRII) and get 220whp on 7psi. and call it a day. #1501

the edelbrock setup is great and has proved itself well, my buddy has it on his z6 and so far no probs (1 year). The thing is this turbo kit runs about as much as a b16/b18 swap so decide which way you want to go. IMO, if your looking to boost your D then piece one together, which would run $1500 or so. Keep in mind the turbo kit itself will run very close to $1500 then you'll need a tune too.

 

or spend a lil less and get an ls and boost that and get the same results. Thats what im looking to do!

 

i am assuming your d series that you want to boost is stock (bottom end wise). those motors dont last long after 190whp, after that its only a matter of time before the engine will kill it self most likely by throwing a rods (d series rods are weak). depending on how good of a tune you get will determine how long you last after the 190whp mark. personally i'd keep it safe at no more than 190whp especially for a dd, and because we're going into winter, your going to hate life trying to drive 250whp through snow....

 

thanks man if i do turbo then im going to build the engine bottom and top end i wanna do it right i jus dont want a huge turbo setup i want something simple b/c i am still new to forced induction and dont wanna mess anything up.

 

All I can say is get a dry sump oil pump or some kind of OEM replacement style oil pump for that puppy.

I don't know why but for some ungodly reason the Y8's blow 3x as much as the Z6's under boost.

I know tons of pple running boosted Z6's for awhile now - i know like 2 people running boosted Y8's that it's actually be running awhile now - the others all are blown due to oil pumps crapping out.

 

not to thread jack or anything but how would a stock 00 si do with this kit... how much would i be able to boost on stock internals... i might be getting this kit soon as im selling my ej...

but the edelbrok kit cost about 3200-3500buck's it is alot for 176whp out of the box ready. and as far as this kit on a b16#1501 it does verywell also from what ive heard. ive even heard of people getting almost 210whp out of box..but that is just word of mouth.

but the thing is are you wanting to use the stock piggyback system that comes with the kit or are you wanting to use hondata or chrome?? just make sure that u get it tuned right. and get A COMPRESSION TEST FIRST.that is very important. good luck.
