I was kinda wondering this too because I was reading an article in an import magazine that recommended always doing compression checks when buying jdm motorswaps. I'd also like to know if there is a way to quickly check compression on a motor out of the car.

Just rig some leads tot he starter. keep the throttle at WOT. Keep in mind that a cold engine will have lower compression than a warm engine. Just look for variation. Depending on resources, it would be easier to perform a leakdown test, which would provide more information than a compression test.
