Default Rolling w/out axles- bad??

How bad is it to remove the transmission and reconnect the suspension, then roll the car around on the hubs without the axles in there? How bad is it on the bearings? Or is it anything I should worry about if I'm not moving the car far (from in the shop to a tow dolly to my garage at home). Any help would be appreciated.

It's ok to do that, as long as you put tires on the car . The axles dont support any weight, thats what the hub/bearing is for. I would make sure the engine doesn't take a trip out from the engine bay though.

Cool, just thought I'd ask before I go ahead and do that. I was pretty sure, but I just wanted a second opinion. Thanks

ummm, im not sure where that guy gets his information but your hub is a press fit with the axle keeping everything tight, theres a reason there torqued to 126 ft/lbs.

dont roll it more than a few feet unless you REALLY have too. please dont listen to 200kCivicSI

This guy is right. If you have to move it around alot, i suggest at least using a bolt/washer combo to keep the hub from seperating. I found this out the hard way

Yeah, move it around alot. I was assuming it would be a little. Going from the shop to a tow dolly really isn't that far, people.

Dude they're right, and this is a crucial peice of info to just act like you know.

Axle nuts are there to hold the hub together. if you have to, go to a junkyard, get some crap axles, cut the shafts right before the outer cv joint, and tighten those in there for now.

Sorry for my ignorance. I didn't think moving a car to a tow dolly required the purchase of junk axles. I'll stash this away in the "dumb things i said" folder.

1500lbs+ on press fit wheel bearings isn't exactly my idea of safe.

speaking of the word safe....that reminds me of something...ahh yes.."better safe than sorry"
