Two way speakers have a Woofer and a tweeter in one unit.

Three way speakers have a woofer, midrange and tweeter.

A 3 way component set has 3 speakers
Tweeter
Mid-range
Mid-bass

A 2way system set has 2 speakers
Tweeter
Mid-range

The 3 way spits the frequencies up so each speaker plays a smaller range of frequencies. The idea is a smaller range will be more accurate as the speaker can be more specifically designed to play a small set of frequencies.

That does not mean 3-ways are better then 2-ways. Listen to both and decide which you prefer.

for most cars would you have to get some sort of custom fitment then for 2 or 3 way components speakers, lets say for the fronts?

I used q-logic kick pannels with a lil modds to them and used the door for the midbass driver. This was in a teg and the sound was so clean that you would of thought there was a sub in the car.

so let me get this straight....you'd put the mid-range speaker in your front door and the mid-bass and tweeter would be in the q-logic kick panels.

is there a cheaper route to install the 3 way components in the fronts, cheaper than the q-logic?

Almost right, except its the mid-bass that goes in the door, and the mid-range in the kick panel.
