Power Steering repair/ problem?!?!?
Before anyone rips me a new one for asking a question, I have already searched this site, and the archives as well. My question is, for any mechanics out there, has anyone ever dsassembled a power steering pump for a 2000 Prelude (or similar)? I pulled it out, drained the power steering fluid out, but the last thing is the bearing cylinder and the main pulley shaft. Any ideas on how to take it out? I just dont want to break anything. Thanx. -ram
Sweet. I'm about to bandage up my hoses since i use my car as a daily driver. Does anyone know if it is bad if I drive without the the pump hooked up to the hoses?
i drive with the hoses sealed off, make sure u tie them off tho i forgot to do so and my timing belt threw it around for a couple blocks before i remembered.
yeah i realized that i have a sub for math, so i went ahead and tried to disassemble it.. its too tight to be hand-loosened right now. i sprayed on some WD40, gonna let it sit overnight and see if i can crack it open 2m.
I got down to the last of it, the shaft and the bearings. I can hear it grind when i turn it by hand. I also found a little bit of shavings, which of course means the bearings are out!
I asked alot of mechanics about it and they said they have never taken one apart. It seems weird because it is such an expensive part and somewhat easy to get too!
Anybody gone as far as taking the whole thing apart yet?
