trouble with my oil change and need answers please
Alright heres the situation. I've changed the oil on my 05 civic ex 4 door before. well this time something went wrong. As I was trying to remove my filter, I felt a lot of resistance. Well come to find out, as soon as I remove the oil filter thee was a threading pipe that was attached to the filter. Well I tried to remove it without trying to mess up the thread but no luck. I went online and found out that it was the HOLDER, OIL FILTER part number 90015-PH1-013 that was attached to the filter. My question to whoever can help is, How worried should I be and if I am able to get this part is it pretty easy the screw back on? Is this a common problem? Can I fix it myself or do I need to go to the Honda dealership. Any knowledge about his situation would greatly help. Thanx God Bless
Wow, I can honestly say that I have never heard of that happening, does the other side just screw into your block? What happened to the filter, how did it get stuck? How long has it been since your last oil change?
yeah the thread is still on the filter. I tried screwing it back on but the threading is not in its original condition, It only been about 3500 miles since my last oil change. I use royal purple synthetic oil. Can you help bro?

Well if you already messed up the threads... then your pretty much SOL, I'm sure you could get it to go back in, but not like it's supposed to. If the threads are damaged I'd talk to the dealer and get a new one.
Parts like that are things you don't want to look past and just "make it work".
But, if I'm misunderstanding what your saying, you could wrap a piece of rubber around the threads and use the ol locking pliers to get them apart, but threads (especially on oil filters and such parts) I would be very very careful.

damn how tight did u screw that **** on last time?
it doesnt have to be all that tight....ive had cars come in before (i work at a goodwrench quick lube thats connected to a chevy dealer) when i could litterally just turn it w/ one finger and there was no oil leaks(not recommending that loose)
if i am understanding correctly ...the little threaded cyl. that the oil filter screws onto just broke off? i have never heard of that
def call up honda or tow it there and get them to do it ...05 ..still have warrenty??

Hahahaha, anyways I have never heard of that happening. I have done oil changes for over two years, and never had one do that. But as of a couple days ago I had an audi that the whole oil filter housing was moving but it eventually gave and the oil filter just screwed off.

I have had the same problem twice now, with a 2005 Honda Civic EX SE 4Dr. The first time it occurred at a local Quick Lube, where the filter came off with the holder stud and the service crew attempted every way possible to free the filter from the stud, but to no avail. They ordered a new holder stud (which four local Honda Dealers did not stock) and two days later it arrived and they reinstalled it into the engine block, with a aftermarket filter. The next visit, to the same quick lube, the issue occurred again, but they were able to separate the filter from the stud and reinstalled it into the block, with a OEM oil filter, hat I supplied. The service manager said this was the second time he had seen this on a Honda, the other vehicle being an Accord. On my latest visit (yesterday June 8, 2008), it occurred again. I asked the service crew to reinstall the locked filter and stud and am awaiting a service appointment with Honda, to receive their opinion on this problem. Will update you as I learn more.
