i was reading some thing on how i should switch over to OBD1 and it said that OBD2 cant be messed around with too much and that it trys to tune itself to stock specs??? i can kinda bealive this because i useto redline at 8300 n after i put in new type S pistons it went down to 8100....
and would a apex Vafc work good with it still at OBD2??
and also a question, a 99 base prelude is OBD2A right??? or OBD2B???

In regard to your question, OBD2 is a diag system that controls emissions. Unlike the obd system that had a single o2 sensor and was tested by the tail pipe. The obd system is a complete closed system. Using 2 o2 sensors , controlling air/fuel mixture more closely. Thats why obd2 systems aren't tested through the tail pipes any longer. The ECU or PCM has a set of parameters that must be met during warm up. Looking at the tps,Crsen, Camsen (if it has one) and both O2 sensors plus other emissions controls like evap. The first o2 controls much of the mixture but if the second one sees too lean or too rich after the cat, it will try to change the mixture. If it cannot fix it it will set a code. So your question of self tune is somewhat correct. Now with redline I don't know.
Don't know about OBD2a or b.

no he was probably just going by the stock tach.
OBD2 will detune any mods you make, but at WOT and open loop that doesn't matter because your motor ignores the fuel trims when your in open loop.
V-AFC's will only work to tune your open loop, everything in closed loop will still be like stock until you swap to OBD1
V-AFC just trick the computer by modifying signal voltages, get a really tuning solution and actually tune the car not trick it into think something else is happening.
