I have been looking into swaps lately for my civic and im just wondering how all of these companies can have low mileage motors and they all claim around 30-45k. does anyone know how they get all these low mileage motors. and also will a jdm motor pass emissions in washington? thanks

Because is Japan the average yearly mileage for a vehicle is around the 5,000 mile mark. The fact that the engines outlast the cars makes for easy pickins for the junk yards. That, and the fact that the Japanese replace their engines every 100,000 km.

The jdm honda motors are typically about .2 higher compression and often lack a vacuum port for the evap canister. But that is no hurdle to emissions. Low mileage = good combustion chamber sealing = very little blowby

My jdm motor has been passing CAli smog for 3 years running and there are plenty of people out there that have been passing for much, much longer than that.

Hell, my first car, an old Toyota Camry was given a jdm motor back before I knew that an engine swap was even possible.

Ok thanks WA is more lenient than cali as far as emissions goes so i should be ok. one more question since i have the Si trim and im wired for vtec does that mean i need the complete changeover or can i just get by with engine tranny and ecu?
