Default Building My First Box Today. Need Port Help/Placement. Design Help

Got my QX4 back from the shop from getting saftied and etested so I can now do with it what I please.

Today Im going to be building my first box, and its gonna be pretty big.

Im going to be INVERTING 2 Audiobahn AW1206T 12" subs in this box

Specs of the subs:
http://www.audiobahn.com/Audio...s.pdf

The area I am going to be using for the box is 24" wide X 32" long X 18" high

It work out to about 6.6cubic feet WITHOUT subtracting port volume and sub volume since Im inverting them

So my plan is to basically build your standard rectangular box for those dimensions, and place both subs on TOP of the box, inverted. Thats fairly straight forward I suppose....

What I dont understand is the ports, where IT or THEY (do I need 2?) should go, and how big they should be. I would prefer to have a square slot type one that I can build out of MDF and have it be as long and as narrow as possible (for look) but dont know where to place it, nor how to find out what freqency it will be tuned for. Can anyone help me with that?

Also, is any sort of internal bracing/chamberring required?

Id like to get the most SPL possible out of these subs, but also have them still hit cleanly and be able to listen to all types of music.

Would love for some input
THanks guys

First the link that you provided had all the info right there. Next I would not even invert those subs and try to get sq out of them. Its hard enough that there audiobahn. Plus some subs do not like to be inverted and play in a ported enclosure.

Im pretty set on mounting them inverted though, unless it has a BIG difference?

Can someone help me on my port design and whether or not I should split this box up into 2 chambers? Then I will need 2 ports!

If I remember correctly, you lose about 3db by inverting subs.

Is there any reason why you are inverting the speakers? You aren't running an iso configuration are you?

If its what I think you are doing, the box should be chambered. Every speaker is slightly different from the next even if its the same model.

Being that this is your first box I seriously suggest you go with a simple sealed chambered box.

You are likely to run into port noises and problems with the ideal port placement. Depending on how what kind and how loud you may want to run a sub-sonic/high pass filter out to the subs if running a ported enclosure.

Bracing is always good.

Just keep in mind that a sealed box is much more forgiving that a ported.

Good luck.

from personal experience I'd say this as well. I had the bright idea to build triangular enclosures for a set of home speakers and in hindsight I should have started off with a set of small monitors. However, if you are an experienced woodworker this definitely makes things easier.
