I have a b16a2 and it burns through oil pretty quick. It's burns about 1/2 ( at most, it's usually less ) a quart every month. With out pulling the motor and replacing either the piston rings and valve seals, what do you guys reccomend to stop this problem. What have you done and what works?

 

there is some stuff called "restore" at auto parts stores, just an oil additive, I dont know if it works, but thats what its supposed to do. Not a permanent fix though. You could just keep adding oil. Or fix it right.

 

Yea, I will pull the motor in a few months or so. By continuosly adding oil, does it produce heavy carbon deposits? Or damage the motor in any other ways?

 

theres no way to fix the burning of the oil u can only slow it down by using additives i used lucas when i changed the oil for when my first motor burned oil

what kind of oil are you using?
are you sure you're burning it and not leaking?

yea make sure your not using 5w-30 its a lil too thin 10w-30 is the way to go

 

I use 5w-30 Mobile One in my engine, it works great. I am just pimp like that though, lol.

Adding oil is about the only other thing you can do. Shouldnt be a problem

Go read up on how oil works.

At operating temps those two oils perform exactly the same. The only difference is the cold start up viscosity.

How many miles do you drive in a month? how many miles on the engine? Its pretty comon for higher milage engines to burn a little oil. Especially if your right foot rests on the floor alot.

 

I currently use 5w 30 high milage oil from mobil. It's has a lower viscosity allowing it to run better through the engine. I personally feel that 10 w 30 is to thick, unless it's the dog days of summer. I picked up a can of restore and will add it to my oil when it gets to a certain level, hopefully that will slow it down.

 

10w30 and 5w30 have the exact same properties when at operating temperature...Honda usually recommends 5w30 because it will actually help raise fuel economy by a very tiny bit...which makes a difference with cafe(corporate annual fuel economy) and might actually make a difference on several different levels for the company. The fact of the matter is that it really depends on the climate. In a warm climate, it may be better to use 10w30...where as up north it would be better to use 5w30.

i run 15-40 in my GSR and it loves it
