Default DAP Paint Problem?

I'm beginning to wonder if there is anyone else out there with peeling paint / clearcoat failure on a DAP hatch?

I'm thinking it's might just be a one year problem, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone else have a problem with DAP paint chipping or peeling off? Her's an example of what I saw on a DAP hatch once (this is the same thing on an '03 Odyssey).

To keep a running tally of how common this is, I'll try to keep all the cars I know of listed here. Maybe this will show if it is more common on one year or uniform across the board.

I've got a 99 DAP hatch with areas where the colored portion of the paint has come off all the way down to the primer. Gas filler door, roof, spoiler over hatch window, etc...

I've seen other DAP hatches with the same problem but don't know what years they were.

DAP is Dark Amethyst Pearl. It ran on the '97-'99 Civic CX and DX hatches in the US.

I'm thinking this might be a 1999 problem, at least for the most part.

Yeah so it seems. Lucky us!

Sounds like pretty much the exact same locations as mine. Gas filler door, wing, and part of the roof right in front of the wing. I've also got it on the pillar leading down to the gas filler door. The guy prepping those sections for paint must have been having a bad year.

The '97 hatches that were red are Roma Red. It's a more "orange" color than Milano , which is pinker or bluer. 6G coupes are Milano Red. 6G sedans are Inza Red.

I'm mostly trying to find out if there might be an issue with DAP paint though, since I've seen and heard of this problem on several cars before this and more since I began this thread.

Oh, and there are lots of other EK hatches elsewhere in the world, as there are also other EJ hatches elsewhere in the world too.

well a buddy of mine had a 98 DAP and his looks pretty good. idk if its just the DAP or if its all colors just cause of the age of the car and the weather taking its toll.

Yeah. It seems like it's uncommon for there to be paint issues, but slightly more common on DAP than other colors perhaps.

Where was your car assembled? All the '96-'00 hatchbacks sold in the US are assembled at the same plant in Ontario, Canada.

There should be a sticker on your car showing the place of assembly.

If it doesn't expressly say the location, the serial number will probably somehow match to it.
