Because to clip a unibody would be alot of work and would compromise the whole front end of the car. Instead all you have to do is change the fire wall. One way or the other you still have to take the car apart to do it. Would you rather cut the whol front off and weld it on and then risk the chance rusting everything off or just change the firewall and only worry about that one area.
That way you also don't need a frame machine.

Welding it will also cause weak spots, unless you find a way to weld inside the pillars.

It can be done succesfully, but it's not easy to do it right.
