Scary noise from rear....(not the chile I had for dinner)
I occassionally hear this very loud noise comig from the right rear corner of my '91 Si hatch. It only occurs when I have more than 2 people in the car or car full of heavy stuff. The noise sounds like scraping metal, almost a shearing sound. I have a minor creak from my strut, it is distinctively different than that.
I just finished swapping the springs on my car from the stock ones to springs from a 2000 ITR. The swap went well, a little modification was necessary for the springs to fit in the top of the strut assemblies. I took it for a test drive with my friend who helped me, and sure enough, we take one fast left turn, all the weight goes to the right side of the car and the damn scraping metal noise shows up.
What is that noise ??? Could it be the tire rubbing the inner fender wall or something?? I really thought the new springs would prevent me from bottoming out because they are so much stiffer than my stock springs were, and I know it is assembled correctly and torqued down.
Has anyone else ever encountered a similar situation ???
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I get the same sound when going over a bump, more so with two people in the car. I have one size over stock tires all around and I can see where the fender lip rubs on the left side rear tire sidewall. It doesn't bother me any more since it is not gouging the tire, only making a shiny ring where the sidewall meets the tread. Look at the tires very carefully, maybe you have the same problem.
