For the 4g preludes, vtec only comes in three colors red, black and teal. Also vtec comes w/ a spoiler, all other models have the third brake light on top of the rear winsheild, vtec does not have that 3rd brake light, cuz the 3rd light is in the spoiler. Plus the the redline is at 7500 on vtec. Theres other stuff too but these are little quick things. Oh yeah vtec only came in manual too. Also I am not sure what year it started but my 96 vtec only came in leather too.

the vtec has dohc vtec on the valve cover, the si does not (which is the dohc 2.3), and the s model is a sohc. or, you can just look at the block number.

and don't forget it also says "dohc vtec" under "prelude"....
prelude S doesn't come with the front chin spoiler (it was optional) and it has no alloys but steelies with hub caps instead.
the only difference as far as body between the Si and VTEC is the third brake light and "dohc vtec" sticker.

For the 92-96 Prelude, the way to tell for sure is the VIN number. H22A is JHMBB1xxxxxx. H23 is JHMBB2xxxxxxxxx. And SOHC F22 is JHMBA8xxxxxxxx.

my Si came with the rear spoiler with the LED in it and has the 3rd brake light...
that means the spoiler was added later. if it came with spoiler from factory if wouldn't have an LED.

Sorry guys, but it has absolutely NOTHING to do with where your rear light is. All 93 ludes (even VTEC0 had the 3rd light at the top of their rear windshield. The easiest way to tell is... It will say VTEC, SI, or NOTHING. Unless they've taken off the original marks. The VTEC models will say VTEC, the SI's will say SI and the S's will say nothing. Another easy way is the VIN number like the guy above said.

wrong.....
93 preludes all had the third brake light on top of the windshield, that's correct. but 94-up VTEC's didn't, it was on the spoiler.
VTEC's said dohcVTEC and that is correct too. Si's however, didn't say Si. only the Si 4WS said exactly that. i know my preludes dude. ask me where any bolt is and i'll tell you. VIN number is another way to tell, but if the car is moving you can't stop the guy to look at the vin number.

A) Hmmm, well if I'm not mistaken, in my original post I said all 93 Preludes had the light at the top of the rear windshield. Yes, they switched in 94, and then all Preludes had the light on the spoiler. My point wasn't to explain the difference between 93 and 94, it was to explain that you CAN NOT tell a VTEC by where the light is.

B)Oh, well I believe that in Canada the SRs all say SR. I could be wrong though. If not then I guess there really isn't a quick way to tell Si(SR) and S.

By the way... I accidently posted as Phat GS-R before That's why I'm replying now.

Also I am not sure what year it started but my 96 vtec only came in leather too.
I know it came standard on my '95 VTEC. I think that '95 was the first year it was standard. I don't know if it was available as an option prior to that or not.

Well, considering that VTEC Preludes came out in 1993 and every '93/'94 VTEC I've ever seen has leather... My guess would be it has always been standard on VTEC.

wrong again. leather came standard on 94-96 VTEC only, the 93 came with cloth.
also, 93 VTEC didn't come with digital speedo/tach and 94-96 did.
and you got the brake lights wrong too. not all 94-96 preludes came with LED brake light on spoiler (duh, some didn't even come with the spoiler). like i said before, all 93 preludes had the brake light on the windshield, but 94-96 VTEC had it on the spoiler. the rest (Si, Si4WS, S, SE) still had it on the windshield. the reason? well VTEC ludes came with a rear spoiler as a standard feature, while it was only optional on Si's and S's. therefore Si's and S's always had a third brake light on the top of the windshield (if someone chose not to get the spoiler it would still come with the 3rd brake light) and VTEC had it on the spoiler.
so yes, you can tell by the location of the light and please don't try to argue this again.

that could be the case.... oh well, it doesn't matter anyway.
now that i think about it, why would anyone give a rats *** if some guy on the road drives an Si or VTEC?
let's end this topic please, i'm getting tired of it.
