WHAT SHOULD COMPRESSION ON A 96 JDM TYPE R BE?
LOOKING AT BUYING A 96 TYPE R MOTOR AND THE COMPRESSION IS AROUND 215, WONDERING IF THAT'S LEGIT, OR IF A JDM GSR WOULD HAVE 215 COMPRESSION.
BLOCK SAYS B18C BUT BOTH GSR AND TYPE R MOTORS FROM JAPAN HAD JUST THE B18C AND I DON'T WANNA GET SCREWED ON THIS.

It should be 270psi across all cylinders: Team-integra compression how to

the compression wont tell you what kind of motor it is. i had a b16 with 210 across all cylinders. my buddy's 96 R did 225. it all depends on the rings, headgasket, valves, etc and the condition
depends on the gauge too
look for consistency, not numbers
for a start it should be obvious on the inlet manifold, and if there isn't one there, the stud patterns
also the radiator hose inlet/outlets etc. are in different places

Check the head casting next to the date... if it says p72 its a gsr, if it says pr3-3 its a type r. Also check between the oil filter and the block... i think only type r's come with an oil cooler. On the back of the block somewhere should be stamped in the casting p73, i don't remember where though.
There are more experts on here... Please chime in, i could be wrong.

Well though compression won't tell you what motor, I wanted to know what some people had for ratios, because if it was super off, then i'd just look for another engine.
