LOOSE CALIPER HELP
i recently change the pads in the front brakes on my 96 ek hatch and updated to brembo slotted rotors...
anyways only my drivers side front brake caliper seems a bit loose and makes a clanking noise when i brake sometimes but its really getting to me.
i dunno what it is.. the bolts on the caliper bracket are tight. the only thing is that i didnt bleed the brakes... but i was told my alot of ppl that u dont have to bleed the brakes unless the pedal feels weird or low... and it made sense because the car brakes awesome but only that caliper seems a bit loose...

As far as your problem, I don't know, unless there is a problem with your slider pin. But for a rotor/pad change, there is no need to bleed the system.

is that the pin that has like a boot covering it? if so how can that be the problem. thanks

I'm not saying that is THE problem, but if somehow the grease in the boot dissapates, the slider pin could stick and cause a braking problem.
The only other thing that I could think of is maybe your caliper is not working correctly.

well iill take that into consideration...but if it is the grease thats gone ill try to grease it up.... if not.... they i guess ill be on the way to the junk yard to find a caliper

I would wait on going to find a new caliper yet. When the caliper on my Civic was seized, it was dragging on the rotor, and you'd know. When the nut on the caliper bracket of my Sierra backed out, I couldn't go anywhere. I would think if it had to do with the caliper, you wouldn't be going anywhere fast. I would check the slider pin as well as any other associated nuts first.

il check for those...i mean my car brakes good and there is not damage on the rotor....so ill try and lube the pin i guess.... can i just use WD 40 or do i use like wheel bearing grease or something...i never new that was lube in there
Did you replace the anti rattle clips when you changed the pads out? these keep the pads tight in the caliper if they are missing or worn out the pad will move around in the caliper and make a clanking noise when hitting the brakes

well im pretty sure they r in there but I cant tell u if they r worn out or not... but even if they arent there or worn out I dont understandhow it would make the entire caliper move a bit

unless you can see it in action, you wont understand how it can happen. as for the bleeding, you only need to bleed brakes when you introduce air into the lines. if you dont losen the lines to the calipers you dont need to bleed. but try what nighttrain suggested first and go from there. or put the car on jack stands and act like your driving. try to break and have a friend look at it too see what the calipers are doing (obviously do this with the wheel off)
yesI can move it but it only has like a couple of millimeters of play its nothing crazy. it usually only does the clank noise when I backup and brake or when I turn and brake... by the looks of it, it doesnt look like the caliper is applying much pressure on the pads while the car is still... in other words I would be able to stick something really thin like a feeler gauge between caliper and pads...

The pads should be riding on the rotors at all times. My guess is you either have a caliper failure or air in the system that isn't letting that caliper clamp on the pads.
My suggestion is to:
1. Verify you correctly torqued the caliper bracket to the hub
2. Bleed your system
3. Jack the front end up, put in neutral, and have someone press the pedal while you try to turn that side. If it's still not clamping, my guess is a bad caliper...maybe caused when you pushed the cylinder back into the housing.

idont know if this helps...but i just touched the caliper and it really only moves a bit front and back not much side to side.... man this is driving me nuts

If it's moving at all, there must be something loose. Your caliper should not move.

are you 100% sure that you bolted it down tight enough? i would look into that, like mentioned earlier, the caliper should not be moving at all.
