align hone z10 crank girdle
Hi all, I've searched up this but I only noticed an align hone required if a GSR girdle is installed on an LS block since the caps are changed/milled. But what about the z10 kit, it seems to be a straight bolt on to the LS block. Anyone here running a z10 crank girdle on their LS/vtec or LS. Your impressions of it? Align honed or not?
Thanks
Thanks
what kind of power are you going to want to make from this block?
you really dont need the girdle because the LS mains can hold the revs, but if your gonna run the z10 girdle a line hone is recommended. if my memory serves me correctly using a gsr girdle your gonna to need to grind the tops of the main cap flat to fit the girdle, you might still wanna line hone it, and also your gonna need a gsr windage tray, oil pickup, and pan.
either way your going to drop some cash, if your going to spend that much you might as well buy a gsr block. plus, i think the LS block will do fine with out a girdle. most folks that are ls/v dont have them.

I'm looking to make over 200 whp. But I intend to take it up to about 9500rpm roughly with some aggressive cams. Most say it's just piece of mind to have it, but I can't picture the mains needing a hone after installing the z10 girdle. Could someone enlighten me on this?
I will also be balancing the rods, pistons, crank, crank pulley, flywheel and pressure plate as well, pretty much the entire bottom end.
Thanks

if your changing the main caps in anyway you will need to have it align honed, a buddy of mine got one of these (I'm not sure if it was the z10) for his LS and had it machined to work with the LS main caps with main studs and it wasn't an outrageous amount of money...and he didn't have to align hone it
iv never had to do have any machining on a honda block so this may be irrelevant but the last time i had a line hone and a .2 bore over done it was $350, but that was a cast iron 4ag. correct me if im wrong because iv never asked but does it cost less for machine work on a aluminium block?
the z-10 girdle doesnt require you to machine the caps.
put it together and measure both sides of your main journals and see if they are tapered. if they are you need an align hone if not then you are good to go.

if you put the girdle on with out dowels it is worthless you might as well not put it on at all. when you do get it on you are changing the torque to gsr torque specs and you should always line bore the block to make it right. it is around 250.00 for line boring and never line hone a Honda block only line bore

if its a high horse turbo application a girdle would be necessary but if its an NA car ls blocks are fine without them just get fresh main bolts or if you have some cash find someone to make some 4340 billet cam caps and align bore, and hone em out to spec...would be a nice upgrade for an ls/vtec
