See link for DIY above.

However, if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself, the typical charge is about $60 at my local shop. Don't be surprised if you find it higher.

One sign is a "ticking" from the head. Generally a valve adjustment is done as regular maintenance to a vehicle, but not many people do it. Oh, and when I say ticking, it is nothing like a "knocking" sound. You WILL know the difference.

Never done it, but I've been thinking about doing the adjustment myself. I here it works wonders with the gas mileage. I doubt that it's been done on mine. Might have it when the timing belt gets done. I have 194,500 miles on it.

I called around some places for timing belt and water pump replacement and Pep Boys charges more than some dealers!!!

b16 valve adjustment lock/jam nuts are deep into the cyl. head in which u wont be able to do it as efficiently with a specialty tool where a 10mm or 12mm jam nut socket and a screwdriver (flathead) are used at the same time intergrated into the tool to do it faster/more efficiently. and ur valve lash/clearance shuld be on ur hood decal with original motor specs. (correct me if wrong b16 uses a 10mm jam nut and intake lash is .006" in. and ex. is .007"in and they both have slight variances of plus or minus .oo1" in so u will need some feeler gauges and OK im not doing a write up lol rite now so if u want Ill do it for 80$ im in garden grove plus they are usually adjusted wenever ur t-belt/ water pump get replaced 90K miles and yes if they are loose they will "CLIck" like a pen lol and if they are too tite expect a bent valve with some misfires so choose a reputable quality shop to do it or hit me up and its not a bad idea to change ur vc gasket while ur at it and ur spark plugs either for assurance.
