Just another B-series question for you guys.
ok i just read in a post on hear that the B-series that came with automatics had less agressive cams than those that came with 5 speed transmissions, is this true or b.s.??? Also how do you tell if the motor originally came with an auto or manual because i have a first gen B16a in my hatch and that is the way i bought it. It has a 5 speed but i live in cali and i am looking into getting it bar'd. Now the b series automatics came with egr's right or no????? So if it was an automatic engine and if they did come with egr's would i have to put one on or no?????
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
auto or not it won't matter. just get yourself a 5 speed tranny and the proper ECU. Is there a flywheel still on the engine? usually when you get an auto it has a funky looking flywheel (torque converter). thats one way of telling it was auto. I have also heard that there was a difference in cams but I think its BS. Its all in the ECU and tranny itself. change the 2 of them and you have yourself a 5 speed.
I have seen a set of auto b16 cams they are not the same you can tell the lobes are bigger on the 5sp ones just by looking. some importers mix and match engines and will put a 5spd on a auto engine and there is really no way of knowing. There is no egr on auto b16's, at least on the 1st gen ones I have seen
yeah i was just curious because when i bought the car last week it already had the b16a in it and a b-series 5 speed trans (i am not sure which one though becasue the sticker that gives the model number is off of it) but i was just curious about the cams because that was the first time i have heard it.
If anybody else has info please post it.
Thanks
