This is the rear quarter panel rust on one side of my car when I first bought it.

This is the clear coat on the hood fading

This is after I took the DA sander to it

I used rust dissolver gel...it worked pretty good

I sprayed some more rust treatment to stop the rust

this is after it's done, still have to bolt bumper back on

this is after all the clear was taken off the hood, then sprayed with primer
This is what you get for buying a car from up north, but it's still fun to mess around with, gives me something to do
What did you use to fill the rear quarter. If you used body filler eventually it wiil crack. I have the same problem right now. I've thinking of using the rust dissolver just to stop the spread until I can get the car repainted. I aslo want to shave my moldings as well but i'm going to have them welded shut.

yeah i did use body filler, i probably should have used fiberglass, but yeah that rust dissolver gel works really well, for 5 bucks you can't go wrong
are you gonna get it professionally painted?? if you are i would highly recommend putting metal in there then fiberglass then bondo just to fill it out. you bondo is going to crack and its gonna be a waste of time and money after its painted

there is something called cold welding, its kinda like a glue, search around and find about that. but if its bondo in there its gonna crack and look like ***, do it right or do it twice.

is it like wet weld? how long til it usually starts to crack?
im not sure how long it will last, depends on how harsh the winter is, but as long as you havent painted it yet i would recommend grinding it down and redoing it. metal, then fiberglass, then body filler just to smooth it out.
and make sure all that the rust is completely gone, if any is left then its just gonna rust again

Like everyone said, bondo(body filler) isn't that great other then use on the surface.
I did the same spot on my car, except it took more out on the bottom,
refilling the spot with metal, and then welding is def the best way.
