Default Help - Nasty popping sound (h22 swap)

I have a 94 del sol with a h22 swap get a nasty pop under high rpm or when making left turns. I think its my axle, I went poking around and found that where my axle meets the tranny on the passenger side doesnt seem right. I can grab the boot and pull the shaft about an inch+ out, I think its possible that the last time it was worked on my mechanic did not install the clip that holds the axle in the tranny.

I have not messed with fwd cars that much but an inch seems like way too much play best I can tell everything else looks as it should, any ideas would be appreciated, dont really have the money to throw down on new axles right now and if it was just missing the clip I might be able to get lucky with a cheap fix.

As soon as I get the money the Sh tranny is getting the boot, as well as getting new axles but until then I cant really afford to have my car to die on me.
