Default P/R/N/D Indicator lights and A/C intermittently failing -- 2003 Accord V6

2003 Accord V6

The transmission gear indicator lights on my car occassionally fail to light up. When this happens, I notice my A/C does not work, either. But the other display lights on the radio/A/C panel all seem to function correctly. It's just that the clutch for the A/C compressor and the associated radiator cooling fan will not turn on/engage.

Anyone else seen this before? I noticed one thread during my search that had somewhat similar symptoms, pointing to a weak battery -- which I will consider. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Chris

UPDATE:

Sure enough, the battery does read "weak", according to the built-in hydrometer. (we'll save the arguments about the reliability of the green eye for another day...)

In any event, the hydrometer is dark, so there very well could be a marginal battery in the car. I guess it's conceivable that if the voltage is sometimes low, the computer that controls the items in question could be doing funny things. So I'll test out the weak battery hypothesis (found in another thread).
