Default rear quarter damage. help

i have a dent in my rear drivers side quarter. and i got it quoeted and they said it was going to be 550 without paint. 12-15 hours
the damage is next to the tail light and if possible i would like to do the work myself i just dont know what to do and how to do it. i know i need to make sure the tail light seals which it is not doing right now.
i dont know what tools i need and methods to use, but i am pretty sure that the dent needs to be pulled out or worked before bondo or anything like that.
i will post pictures when i get home. but if people could give me a general idea on what i need to fix it and methods of doing things that would be great. oh and if anyone in my area thinks they can do it, id be happy to nagociate a fair price for their work, but i would really like to learn how to do it.
thanks.

Please refer to:

There are also a bunch of step by step video's on YouTube that I personally have used when I first started doing body work on my own car.

thanks ill look when i get home, work has youtube blocked

when i get to the point of painting should do the $50 or save and get a gun? i dont know how much gun and supplies will cost me either.

edit: also that doesnt show how to pop/pull dents and i know some of that is needed especially around the tail light. the housing is dented in one area and i dont think i new tail light will seal there, it might not even fit propperly in that corner.

As for paint, it depends on how important your car is to you, and if you plan on keeping your car for a long time. Also, if you have the time and patience to do the job correctly the first time.

To paint your car properly, you'll have to buy a gun, compressor, and the paint. I just spent $300.00 on the gun and 20 gallon compressor alone (not materials)... so in your case, if you plan on painting cars as a hobby or something, then it might be worth the money... or it might just be easier to get that shop to do it.

The $50.00 paint job CAN be accomplished with awesome results, but those kind of results have only been achieved by people who have spent way more than $50 on the job.

Bondo'ing is way easier than most people think it is... as for pulling dents, youtube has that covered with all the info you need.

If you try to fix it yourself, and it doesn't work out, the quote you got will no longer be valid. Alot of times people try to fix stuff themselves and just end up making it worse.

Post some pics

alright...here goes nothing.....

BEFORE:
its really was alot bigger then it looks. its hard to get a good prespective with these pics and my shitty cell camera.

the dent was pretty bad im not sure how easy it is to tell but it was kinda deep. the metal that housed the tail light was ripped and i had to stretch and bend it back to place

AFTER:

as you can see there is still some cottage cheese

buuttt..i got it back to the correct shape for the most part now just needs i little bondo work? i think?
tell me what you guys think and if there is anything else i should do before prep for bondo and bondo.
thanks

and...one of before everything...just cause

Nice looking sol You got out a lot of it, but you could still work out some of the smaller dents with a small ball pean hammer or a pick of some sort. After you've got the panel a little straighter it's ready to be grinded, and filled.

i've seen metal working hammers at auto zone , grab one of them, and find something solid to hold against the panel while knocking that out. a 2x4 might even work. get it as straight as you can, grind, bondo, glaze, prime.
