Hey guys I've got a 94 Civic LX Sedan. It's a 5-speed if it makes any difference. I'm having problems with my speedo and odo. They only work probably like 10% of the time! For example let's say I'm driving 200 miles. They wont work at all for 120 miles. Then they'll just start working for 20 miles, then for the final 60 miles they will stop working.

This is not so much a problem due to not knowing how fast I'm going, as I can judge that by the gear/engine speed. However, I am starting a job which requires me to drive a LOT and I want to keep up with my mileage accurately. Also, it annoys me that now the car's odometer reading is inaccurate and I'll never know exactly how many miles is on it!

I have already put in a new vehicle speed sensor and that did not fix my problem. Any ideas?

BTW, the car, even though the odo has been busted for like 3-4 months, shows 210,000+ on the odometer. Bulletproof little sucker.

i'm not sure exactly how to check it but if you have already replaced the VSS then the actual speedometer in your cluster could be bad, happened to me.

Do you have a CEL?

 

checked the speedo fuse? also could be a bad alternator voltage regulator, b/c that sounds like what happened to me when mine went bad.
