Default Newbie needs your help! Broken Ignition Question

Hey everyone I just purchased a 1995 Honda Civic Ex, The previous owner threw a rod through the block, so I ended up swapping another SOHC Vtec into it.

Finished the swap, went to start the car, nothing but the fuel pump turning on, I thought maybe I had a bad starter but when i touch the Positive on the starter and the flag wire, it cranks.

So I then turned the key to the "On" position and jumped the starter as stated above and the car turned on. I then discovered that you need to keep a little pressure on the key or it wont idle when i jump the starter or else the car turns off.

Summary:

-Car Has no steering wheel lock when the keys out

-Car wont crank w/ the key

-Car will crank/start if you turn key to "on" position and jump the starter w/ a screwdriver

-Car will die if you dont have a little pressure on the key while its in the "on" position

So I figure someone tried to steal the car and broke the ignition, But would this cause the car not to crank when turning the key? If so what parts do I need. THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE!

Had the same problem with my 94 EX. I had to put major pressure and even wiggle the key around in the slot to get it to start. I sarted getting worse and worse and eventually got to where it would hardly start at all. I think some of them just go to **** after so many miles. What you will need is a new ignition switch with keys. Then it will be lame because your doors won't use the same keys but it will start. On ebay they are anywhere from 30-110 bucks.

just search ebay, the install is pretty easy, I am not sure how much honda charges to rekey, but it can't be too bad considering we don't have key coded ignition

Was it the ignition switch? You don't need new keys for a new ignition switch. New keys for a new ignition cylinder, but not switch.
