EGR blockoff questions.
I couldnt find anything when i did a search. Basically what i wanted to know is whats the good and bad of doing a EGR blockoff on a H22?? I remember a post about how a guy used a red bull can to do his blockoff. Exactly how is this block off done??? Thanks
just get the hondata intake manifold gasket for $60.....this will block off the EGR and will lower the intake temperatures by insulating the intake manifold from the head....with the EGR blocked off, it will lower your intake temps. because the exhuast gases are not running through the manifold....also you should bypass the coolant lines that go to the cold idle valve and idle control valve
It will not throw a code if you have the ECU reset mod http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-afc/ecu.shtml
The ECU looks for problems with most emissions equiptment over consecutive driving cycles. If you have the reset mod you ECU never has consecutive driving cycles because it is always being reset.

does that link apply to OBD1 computers as well? would i even get a CEL if i did the egr block off on a 94 model? i am very interested in performing this mod. i would lik to know a little more about it. any info would help thanks.
no you will not throw a code on an OBDI car. i have the mod done to my car right now. i was having sputtering problems and it cured it for the main part. my egr kept getting clogged. ill try to find some instructions i put on preludeonline on how to do it...

there is the page if you want to check it out......but here are the instructions....
alright.....hopefully you'll be able to understand this....
tools needed: carb/throttle body cleaner, 12mm wrench/socket
1) go out and buy some brand of throttle body or carb cleaner. i bought valvoline synpower stuff and it worked pretty well but anything should do
2) locate your egr. if you pop the hood, find your fuel rail, follow it all the way to the left until it ends, then look right behind that, its right there. it has a black top and has one connector going into it.
3) disconnect the connector going into the top of the egr
4) loosen and remove the (2) 12mm nuts that hold down the egr. its kind of hard to get to so i just used a 12mm socket with a 6 inch extension and it went on the bolt, but was still a little crooked, but i got it off.
5) follow the vacuum line coming off the top of the egr over across to the other side of the fuel rail, disconnect it from the hard plastic pipe right there (you can disconnect it anywhere, but its easiest right there i thought). remove the egr.
6) take off the gasket that was below the egr and throw it away
7) get your carb cleaner and spray the bottom of the egr VERY good. there is a hole in the bottom of the egr, spray a LOT in there, do that over and over a few times until the runoff is almost clear.
8) get your carb cleaner and spray it sparingly down into the 2 holes that were under the egr when you took it off. let it sit for a minute or so then use a cloth of some kind of dab out any extra cleaner that is puddled down in there. its veryyyyy dirty, watch out, dont use mommas favorite rag!
9) make sure the egr is as clean as you can get it and the two ports that were below the egr are clean or as close to clean as you can get them, then put the new egr gasket over the two holes on the intake manifold below the egr.
10) put the egr back on and tighten down the (2) nuts that hold down the egr valve
11) reconnect the vacuum line you disconnected in step 5
12) reconnect the connector you disconnected in stop 3
13) its not a must but i always feel better resetting the ecu after something like this, so if you want to do that, go ahead and do that.

how can you take out the egr without throwing a code though.. cause frankly i dont want it there.. just adds to the wires and **** and hell since i have a jdm a motor i already have enough wires running all over the place..
when you take the egr off, you cut a thin piece of sheet metal aka red bull can or any other type, cut it in the shape of the bottom of the egr, put it between it an dthe manifold, the reconnect everything. it wont throw a code cause it will thin its opening and closeing, but w/the plate there nothing is really happening
you unbolt it from the manifold, put sheet metal between it and the manifold, rebolt it on, and reconnect the vacume hose and the sensor clip
so basically what your saying is when you do this mod your not actually removing the egr but instead incapacitating it. so the computer "thinks" its working but its actually not. i wish i could remove it altogether but i suppose this is the next best thing.
