Default Ecu Code 80 (EGR)

im popping a code 80 which i have researched and it says its the Exhaust Gas Recirculation- insufficient flow detected.

i went ahead and bought a used egr valve and installed it. When i installed it, it made my car run like crap. so i went back and told them this egr didnt work. they gave me another one and the same thing..So im thinking my egr on my car is fine cuz with the original one my car drives good but with a code. the other ones made my car bogg.. Some one told me to clean the original one out and i did. the same thing keeps happeing. I then asked around again about this problem and they told me to take the egr valve off and ull uncove the hole on the intake manifold were the egr sits at and get a clothes hanger and take off all the carbon build up in the intake manifold. I havent done it yet but im thinking of doing so.
I researched about this again and i seen that people said that after they cleaned the intake manifold out with a clothes hanger it seemed to work only temporarly. so then i come across a post about cleaning out the intake manifold and it said that on the intake manifold its self, right on top theres 3 or 4 holes that i can drill out and run the clothes hanging in there for a better and deeper clean of the manifold.
Well heres the thing.. i know how this is all has to be done but how do i remove those holes that they talk about? is there any good diy post around?
does anyone know how i should do all this?
srry for all the writing.

It's amazingly common for the EGR ports to be come completely plugged with hard carbon. You need to drill out the ports and clean from there, then install new caps. There are write ups on the site just search

I have an H23 with these symptoms:

EGA Valve plugged in, car will run fine but once it gets warm the RPMs go wild and the car dies.

When I unplug the EGR the car will run fine and CEL comes on after the car warms up.

CEL says EGR blah blah blah.

I will try the drilling thing this weekend.

Here's a couple of links:

google this: prelude egr valve drill

For those of you that have done this:
Have you tried spraying throttle body cleaner into the intake? Or is this stuff too far up?
Also, what about the crap that falls into the manifold once you drill it?

PO80 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation- insufficient flow detected

I received this code as well, and thought it was time for an EGR port cleaning. I was at Advance Auto the next day and saw a new product.

I decided to try it, and after 2 tanks of Shell Premium and mostly highway driving, the CEL has gone away and has stayed off for almost a year!! In fact I went to AutoZone yesterday for a code scan, and there were NO CODES STORED

BTW here is a link to preludepower DIY for the EGR port cleaning (if the Shell fuel cleaner doesn't do the trick for you like it did for me).

Ok i have a good idea on how to do the egr port cleaning. Does anyone know where i can get a slide hammer for cheap..I went to kragen and autozone and they wanted 80 bucks just to rent it. I dont wanna go ahead and rent he tool even though they return the money back..i just wanna know if someone out there got a 2lb slide hammer cheap @ some store. Like Home Depot. Osh?. Let me know or give me some good tips on how to take out the egr port plugs..
