Overheating..A/C still not working
Ok well I posted a topic last week asking about my a/c and overheating problem..I checked everything out...I jumpered both fan motors and they both worked so no problem there...and it said to check the connection coming to the radiator fan timer..so I did that I believe there is 5 wires your supposed to check for voltage so I did that but only 3 came back with any readings..so Im thinking the radiator fan timer needs to be replaced..thats what it says in the haynes manual anyways..I replaced the two relays that are beside the radiator..that didnt do anything..my a/c compressor still didnt kick on and neither fan did...so I decided to jump both connectors that the relays fit onto..so I did that and the a/c compressor kicks on and the fan kicks on..and both fans worked then..but as soon as i put those relays back on nothing works again..it just seems like something isnt right?..anyone have a clue..I got the relays off a car at the junkyard so I guess they could possibly be bad? I dont know though
If it worked when you jumped the relays, either you got bad relays or there's a problem somewhere else in your wiring. Did you just jump across the relay? You might want to check out your thermostat too, to ensure that it's giving the right reading to activate the relay as to when the fans need to come on.
yea I just jumped across the relay..ive tried like 5 different sets of relays off of cars at junkyards and none have fixed the problem so my guess is either they are all bad or something else is wrong..is it possible the radiator could be bad..it has never been replaced..I know its not cracked but I guess it could be faulty?...im going to take the fans out and look it over see if it looks ok or not..any other ideas...do you think the radiator fan timer could be bad?..ive checked all the wiring i can and it looks fine from what I can see..im so confused lol..im pretty sure its not the thermostat its been replaced recently but theres no harm in replacing it again...thats when it all started though right before I replaced the thermostat about a year ago it started over heating and the a/c didnt work..so i did that and it didnt fix anything
so Im almost 100% sure its the relays now..but anyways I have one more question..if the radiator was bad could it cause this also?...I noticed after I squeeze both the upper and lower tubes a couple of times they get really stiff but I highly doubt that means anything..I just thought maybe that might mean the radiator could possibly be clogged?..im going to try the relays and see what happens
ok update...I checked both the relays beside the radiator and the cooling fan relay in the fuse box and all are fine..i jumped the relays and you can hear them open and checked for continuity and all was good...but still no a/c..i got my passengers side fan fixed...it was just the switch on the front of the block that needed to be replaced...but still no a/c fan and no a/c compressor working..like i said if you jumper the connectors that the relays go on everything works but as soon as you put those relays on nothing works...but i know the relays arent bad..anyone have the slightest clue of what could be wrong????? please help this is absolutely killing me...I hate air conditioners
