Default can you mismatch cams?

a good friend of mine is putting a CTR intake cam in my jdm b16. he says it will work fine with my stock exhaust cam. and that if i want to do an exhaust cam he has an ITR exhaust cam.. can you mismatch cams like that?
will it be a noticeable power increase?

i have a b16 obd1
intake, header, hollowed out cat and a 2.5 exhaust with n1 muffler.

fyi, itr and ctr exhaust cams are the same thing. there's no problem with that.

True. But i dont think that is what he's asking. Yes, mismatching cams is fine, in reality you only need the bigger intake cam, but if he has it there, might as well change both but the exhaust cam isnt noticably different from the GSR/B16. Now with the ITR intake cam you would feel a nice little increase.

Slight difference between CTR and 97-99 ITR intake cams.
00-01 ITR intake cam=CTR intake cam.

Yes.</TD></TR></TABLE> Yupper.

Back when the cams cost more alot of people would do just what you did, since the cost of parts were higher.

That dated me...

It's A-ok to stagger the cams like that, it'll help a bit power wise.

your putting in the valve springs as well, correct?

To my understanding, thats a must when running anything larger than a GSR cam...on stock B16A valvetrain.

It def. wont hurt to run a better valve train. You take alot of chance with your stock VT if you plan on revving any higher than stock redline. Plus it's nice to have that insurance.

As long as your keeping your 8200 RPM redline, your fine with your stock valvetrain. But down the road, change it out and rev it out.

i do plan on upgrading the valvetrain over the winter while my car is parked.
i would actually like to get the head ported and polished new valves, springns retainers.
what would you guys recomend?
how high can i rev with upgraded valvetrain and the ctr/ itr cams?
and should my next upgrades be an intake manifold and tb?
skunk2 or what?
thanks for all your help so far

ive been out of the honda game since 02 ( i had a 00 epb si) then sold it and got a 01audi s4 dumped probbaly 25k into that car then had a friend wrap it around a pole. since then ive had a son and thats where all of my money has gone.
now i got this 93 coupe **** box ive been working on for the past year and i need to make it faster but i dont want to have to worrie about driving it. maybe a 50shot down the road or possably even a turbo AFTER i get a 2nd vehicle.

If you're getting upgraded valvetrain then you should be able to rev up to the point and higher than what the ctr/itr cams would make power up to. I would get a tune after you get valvetrain so you know when you stop making power and that should be where you stop revving.
