so the other nite i was racing an itr and my speedo stopped working...so after pulling my speed sensor out and checking it, the the wiring, plug, etc. i figure out it's the #15 fuse that has blown..

so i replaced the fuse and fixed the problem, then bout 3 miles later it popped just driving down the road and speedo stops working again...then i pull over and put a new one in and fixed...but it popped 3 of them tonite alone and i was just cruising...

has anyone had this problem before, and what can i do to figure out how to fix it? thanks for the info

 

Did you recently change the O2 sensors? If so - it could be causing a short.

The other thing is that sometimes on the Y8's (there was a tech service bulletin released about it) the VSS harness rubs up against the intake manifold bracket and shorts out to it...fix = electrical tape.

Check if you are getting more than one code - if it's a short you'll be getting both O2 sensor heaters, VSS, and an ELD problem.

 

i checked it and i'm only getting a code 17 for the vss...i can't figure it out...the harness is not rubbing anywhere out of the normal, and i can see that the ground on the thermostat is making a good connection...

anything else i could possibly check for...oh yea and i didn't replace any sensors recently..just happpened while driving

 

also forgot to ask...would it b bad to step up from like a 7.5 fuse to like a 10 or 15 to see if that helps? im just afraid it won't bust the fuse on those and end up grounding something else out

 

Yes it would be bad to up the amperage of the fuse; that can cause wiring nightmares and easily create shorts.

 

i had the same problem with mine...i just tapped in to the blue and white wire write into the blue and whit one behind the gauges. works fine probaly not safe though

 

my radio started turnin on and off today on the way home, so i'm pretty sure it's shorting out...im not sure wtf is going on...could i have possibly undone a engine ground? would that give this effect?

 

Check your grounds

 

k...i checked these grounds and all ok
main battery ground
alternator ground
starter ground
thermostat ground
valve cover ground
tranny ground.

i found out today that my alternator took a ****, so it's not doing anything basically...could that be a blown fuse to it possibly, or that it went bad? i'm not sure were to go from here?

 

Yeah it could be causing voltage spikes, ive had my gauges go complete dead while going down the road then spike then return to regular. Replaced alternator and that went away. The ecu freaks out. The ecu basically controls the ground if it doesnt know what to do problems start happening.

 

k..i think i'll go pick up a new alternator today on my lunch break...i'll keep this updated when i figure out wtf is going on...thanks for all the help again guys
