Default hooking up a heated O2 sensor to an OBD0 car

how can i hook up a heated 02 sensor to a non-obd ecu. the closest i can put my O2 sensor is on the downpipe close to the turbo. my sensor is not giving correct reading because it's not hot enought. only when i drive my car hard and the O2 gets hot enought to give right reading. can i just hook a heated O2 sensor to an ignition relay or does the ecu control amount of heat of the O2 sensor in OBD1.
