The stock R motor would pwn a cammed b16.

The transmission alone makes a big difference provided the ITR motor comes with the ITR tranny.

200hp stock > ~180 modded

basically you'll be spending $2,000 if you go either way, if your looking for a semi stock all motor setup then the ITR is for you. If your looking into turbo/supercharging...stick with the b16. The hassle to swap in another b-series isn't worth it when you can boost and make the same amount of power with your b16.

The B16A has the same gearing as the 97-98 ITR (1-3) the ITR's 4-5 are higher, GSR style. the 00-01 ITR is where the 4.7 FD came in, i believe.

lol and man you REALLY hate B16As dont you?

OP: Idunno. I'd stick with the ITR. Stock motors are usually more reliable and run better than modded motors. Plus the ITR gives you a better jumping board for furture mods. I mean, dont get me wrong, i LOOOOVE B16As. But that ITR makes B16A top end with more than GSR low end. You really cant go wrong.

The early ITRs were awesome, but the 00-01 ITR motors rule. 4.7FD, and CTR intake cam. Plus the header. Plus you're probably getting a fresher motor. The cost is a little higher. A couple hundred i think.

well, i think the 00-01 ITRs in the US also had the bigger intake cam. I'm pretty sure. You're right about the 4.7FD, though. I just figured the guy was going JDM ITR, as those are the most readily available.

Not really, but the OP had an option for something else.

The only thing I don't like about them are people thinking they have "serious n/a Goals" for their 1.6L.

boost a type R motor, i dont think so, if you are going to boost it, you might as well just get a b18b and not waste the type R motor(made for n/a not boost, and they are like 1 in 2384723908472308947238947230894723) boost a b16 stock....that is fine but not a type R. high comp. motors and boost dont work together friendly, even with a tune a high comp boosted engine will have more chance with detonation than say a b18b.

well maybe the OP doesn't want boost. How come you answer every question by saying "boost it" even though the OP has no intentions of boosting the motor. Is it that hard to just answer the question "B16A or B18C5"? I'm not raggin on you or anything man, but there are a ton of reasons NOT to boost a motor. I'm aware that there are a ton of reasons TO boost a motor as well. But being an NA guy....iduno, there's an appeal to NA setups as well. Boost is not the answer to EVERYTHING. Especially when the topic was never brought up by the OP.

i'm unsure of why the b18c (gsr) is not in the running. it's a great all around setup, can yield nice power with a few choice bolt-ons, and is boost friendly. not to mention it's typically much cheaper than an ITR unit; my b18c with intake header and exhaust + powerfc tuning made 174/132 atw, which is very healthy for not really having anything done and NOT being an ITR engine.
