is it hard to install shocks and springs together??
hi, i just received my kyb agx shocks with h&r sports lowering springs, would like start on it myself, dont want to pay $150 for installation in a shop. ok, all i need to do is to take the shocks out with the stock springs, take them apart and put the new ones on correct? are there any extra steps i have to follow? i heard you have to cut the bumpstop in the front(or was it the back?). i have all the tools required for the work, but still a bit skeptical in the installation process.
Factory service manual online?
You will need a set of spring compressors too.
Just take your time and you can do it.

Seriously though its not as hard as you think it is just search it and you'll find it to be easy its a couple nuts a bolt and you need a spring compressor.
Man, please for the love of god, use jackstands and work on a level, hard ground. Preferably concrete. Use a spring compressor as well to remove the springs. You can rent it for free at most car places
Use the right tools, you'll thank me later.

Ok, with the AGX and H&R you DO NOT have to cut the bumpstops, it tells you when you get the agx's or the springs in one of the manuals of which car/shock has to cut the bumpstops, and civic is not one, but bmw or something ( look on the manual as i might nbot be correct) does need to be cut,
you can rent a compressor from autozone(free) you take off the old shock, put the new bumpstop on new shock, all other things necceseary, compress the spring then put the top hat on, then put them back in, get a haynes or helms they work wonders.

google majestic honda, they have every part. Thats IF they break/etc... it's the 2 lower bolts, 17 and 14mm
before you do this, soak all the bolts in bb/wd40/etc and then wait a bit till you dig in. Honestly it's really simple to do shocks, i mean i don't think you can get it wrong...

I just installed skunk2 coilovers on my civic and it was sort of a job but not too bad for my first install ever. By myself it took me a couple of hours but the thing is, my lower bolts on all 4 wheels were seized completely. Surpisingly there was no rust on them, but they wouldn't budge not with a breaker bar or air impact tools or even a torch, so on the back I just compressed the springs as low as they would go and then I stood on the drums to push the entire assembly down enough to slip the shock out and slide the old spring off and get the coilover on then on the front I just disconnected the upper control arm from the balljoint and pulled the axle out of the tranny and stood on the rotors, it was pretty ghetto but all done. Got an inspection and alignment afterwards just to make sure I didn't get anything to break and all is right with the world.
can i get the bolts off from kragen or something? or do i have to get it from honda dealer? just to make sure, its 4 bolts total front and back right? or there is more? please point them out for me, thanks.
hahaha dont get a compressor and you'll get a good kick to the gut. or maybe your face hahaha, but it aint so funny when it actually happens to you. ouch hurts thinking about it.
what are the chance that the bolts in the rear will break? what is the best thing to do if it happens on me??

it all depends. if the car is rusty/ has been sitting for a while, they will most likely be a pain in the ***. like stated about, the best thing you can do to help prevent breaking of bolts is to let it soak in PB blaster for a while. if they break, there are multiple ways of getting them out. all depends on how they are stuck/broken

never had anything snap off on me. The only problem I ever had was the damn nut on the shock shaft being rusted on and not wanting to come loose. Impact wrench and 5 minutes of beating the hell out of it, it finally spun off.
haha yeah, ive seen some pretty crazy **** happen with springs. even with the compressor. like the spring slips off one of the arms and BLAM... right in the shin
The one time I did a spring job without a compressor I aimed the bottom of the shock away from me while undoing the nut on top. Damn thing must have scooted a good 50 feet across the shop floor.
Kinda the recoil from that sucker going off kinda felt like that of an M16.
