Default Calling all obd2 JDM D15b specialists!! '99 Ex 5spd w/blown y8, customer supplied D15 long block onl

I have never encounter the 3 stage OBD2 D15b before and the long block is all the guy brought us to replace his blown y8 with. I figured it would work because I was unaware at the time of the type head it was so basically the motor is all the way in and runs but it will not rev over 5,500rpm at all, the company that supplied the guys motor said we just needed to run the original ex cam gear, crank gear and 104 tooth timing belt (the d15 had the oem 103 tooth belt to start with) and it would run great (was only revving to 4,500 with the 103 tooth belt on) but it still does not rev all the way up. To try and avoid writing sooo many details and what I have tried to make this work so far is there somebody here that just KNOWS (not assumes) for sure how to get this long block to work in this car with the mentioned parts only.....other wise we'll tell him he has to get another y8.

I searched the hell out of this topic but just could not find any other threads with this same exact situation, any truely knowledgeable help will be greatly appreciated..this car has kicked my *** this week ...

all you need is a Vx timing belt. you need to get the obd2 d15b ecu.

Well the VX belt was what I used to start with and it would only rev to 4,500 with that one?? I personally think the VX belt should be back on there myself. You say I need the p08 ECU, are you positive about that? I know that ECU requires an EGR valve and 5 wire o2 so that would be a prob.

Are you SURE there is no way to run this motor right with the '99 EX ECU??

there might be, maybe a single vtec solenoid?? i dont think its possible because the fact the the head is a different design from the rest of the vtec d-series heads. that head incorperates vtec-e and the traditional vtec function.

Yeah that's what I was thinking to, I don't really know how the oil flows in the d15 head vs. the y8 head, I have tried the single solenoid unit and same results. I also think that is futile though because all that does is give oil pressure to both vtec sides which i am thinking may be causing the prob anyway? I am thinking the p08 ecu may be the only ecu to run this in OBD 2 mode? ......I'm doing alot of thinking, lol but no confirming yet.

Well we let the car go today since it runs great up to 5,500 rpms and it was the customers supplied parts anyway. The customer was ok w/it and understood he'll most likely need a the proper ECU or most likely another y8 head, his girl drives it and never revs that high anyway.

I would still like to hear from somebody that has actually encountered this exact swap before to know what the proper setup would truely be...anybody?
