AC MAKES A NASTY NOISE WHEN I TURN IT ON HELP

hello! All of a sudden my car died on me. Now when my car is running and i turn on the ac it makes a nasty noise like eckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk and then smokes come out under the hoood....

Would it be my ac compressor that i have to change? Has anyone had any problems like this before? Please help

i think your ac compressor is seizing up.
