Default Engine is dying

Im at VIR right now and on the long back straight in 4th gear my engine has cut off on me a couple of times and waits a little bit to get going again. Its weird. Its like a fuel problem or something, i can best describe it like that.

Full throttle, seems like fuel or ignition shuts off for a bit.

After the revs have gone down and my foot is on the gas, it seems to want to get going right back again but does not and the revs continue to go down.

Then after I slow down about 3o mph the car is engine seems like its ready to go again and I can give it gas and it will go.

Alternator is good
Battery is good and connected very well, but maybe connection could be an issue?

It did this to me at homestead too, but I was on empty and when I filled the car up I had no problems. But I have a half a tank now!

I have a sohc vtec.

my car has done the same thing in the past... i would have a fuse blow that initially starts the car to act up. I think spinnign my alternetor so fast doesnt help.

You are not hitting the speed gov, are you? what is your speed? does it do it at the same rev or speed each time?

I didnt get to drive my car long enough at Road Atlanta to make sure everything was good for NAts.. It did cut out a few times at Summit point just how you are describing. I unplugged my speedo sensor on the tranny at Roebling road and it caused the engine to cut out, and then like yousaid after you slow down 20 or so mph its ready to rev again

look for blown speedo fuse or alternator

hope you get it

I've had my speedo not being connected cause the car to throw a CEL before, but it didn't seem to affect the performance at all.

I did have a high-rev misfire recently that turned out to be carbon build-up on my distributor rotor. We scraped the junk off w/ a razor blade and it ran good as new. I'm not sure if that fits your problem or not though. It did only happen at high revs, but the car would run mostly ok with an intermittant sputter. Does the problem seem to be related to engine revs or speed?

Without the VSS sensor, the car absolutely can run like crap, depending on the model...

- 1998 ITR won't go into VTEC unless you're doing 15 MPH.
- 2000+ S2000 will run like **** without it. I don't know about VTEC. John Oldt recently did this at Summit at Hyperfest (doh, hahaha!)

Edit. VSS.

id like to say speed, becasue it only happened on the straights at VIR. I was doing about 4500 to 5000 RPM before it cut out, on a DX trans mission. I lost my link to mista bones d series tranny page so Im going to search right after i post htis

Ah ... sounds like it's a newer car thing. I still have a speedo cable (not electric VSS) in my car, so that's probably the difference. Plus I don't have to worry about those fancy VTEC systems.

i think it may be a fuel pressure issue. If I sputter in 4th, I can shift into 5th and drive away

edit. it is fuel pressure Im sure. I wasnt flat out on the straight, because I have a a dx trans and sohc so I didnt feel the need to open the throttle all the way so I started giving 100% throttle on the straights and the problem never cmae back

i have disconnected my stock regulator, put a screw in the hose to plug it up. this will keep it at max pressure. its the cheap way around getting an aftermarket regulator and such

You need to work on your pedals.
