Issue #1: I am getting a CEL in my 90 Si hatchback, but only at highway speeds after driving for 10-15 minutes.
It gets stranger: I can turn the car off and back on and it goes away and does not come back, at least for quite a while. I drive 40 miles to work every day and it has only come on 3 times in the past few weeks.
I can't get a read on the CEL because as soon as I turn the car off, it goes away and won't come back. It also always happens to be on the way to somewhere (ie, work) where I can't pull into autozone and have them check it for me.
Issue #2 - I get a high-pitched squealing noise when turning the wheel at low speed (drive way, parking lots, etc.). It only seems to happen at one point in the wheel's travel. I suspect axles. Any ideas?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

whenever you turn the ignition off the Check Engine Light goes off and doesn't come back on until you have another (or same) problem, however, the code is stored in the ECU until you actually reset the ECU - just because you don't have a CEL doesn't mean you can't read the codes - raise the carpet and look at the flashing red LED on the ECU with key on - my guess, from your description, is you will find code 1 for oxygen sensor

I agree, check ecu codes by lifting your passenger side carpet, turning key to the on position, and counting the flashes. If it flashes once then waits a few seconds, then flashes once again, it will be an o2 sensor issue. This can be from a bad sensor or from the sensor reading an emission problem that could be timing, running rich or running lean. Is the motor stock or has it been modified. Have you recently done anything under the hood? Check CEL codes then repost.

Thanks for the guidance. The engine is completely stock - stock exhaust, intake, everything. Good info. I will post again as soon as I narrow take a look at the lights.

Nope, no power steering.
Just ordered an O2 sensor to fix the CEL.
Still need help with the steering noise. Could it be axles/CV joints?

You know you can go down to auto parts store and get a Bosch single wire O2 which is what it has from factory and costs $20 or less.

I bought a Denso "plug-n-play" sensor: no splicing and much better quality.
Any ideas on the squeaking, guys?

That sounds alot like the VSS playing tricks on you.
Try this and see if it works , never coast to a stop in gear while driving . about 25mph to 0 mph leave in neutral. If the check engine light never comes on its your vss.
