Type-S motor issues
Ive been asking everyone but i need to get my info before i start to let this guy get me a type-s motor not sh......just want to know if anyone know if a h22a type-S fit into a 96 si prelude 2.3....and what conversions would i need to know before installing
yes it fits, you need the ECU for the type-s or some type of EMS(at least a P13) and IIRC you'll have to wire in vtec, and there is a how-to thread on that

Type S motors only came from 5th gens. H22A Type S is OBDII and his car is OBDII so it shouldn't be a problem.

Well he said its a Type-S motor non-sh, well all Type-S motors are pretty much SH motors and bring ATTS so he will have a problem. Its kinda useless to get the Type-S if your not gonna utilize ATTS when you can just get teh Euro-R.
so it point less to get the type s cuz i wont have the atts box. ok but i dont care for that cuz i wouldnt be able to up-grade much cuz i want to boost it with turbo plus im using my h23 tranny better wit the boost.....but if your saying the type-s is basicly the sh motor but wit out the atts then that sucks.

The USDM H22A4 was rated at 195 and 200hp, but I thought those numbers were debunked and they were actually the same as the H22A1 (190hp)? If that's true, then:
H22A1 = 190hp
H22A4 = 190hp
H23A1 = 160hp
H22A = 200hp
H22A Type S/Euro R = 220hp

ok if the type-s ( red top ) is a sh but with out the atts box on the block, would it have a 3 hole bracket for the intermediate shaft ( half shaft ) or the 4 hole ( 2 holes on each side ) like the sh model does to hold the atts box in place????????????????????????????????????????? and that list of h22's i found looking thru different web sites cuz i need my car back on the road
If its a Type-S engine and it comes without the ATTS unit it will still be an SH block. Which means you are gonna need an adapter plate for the intermediate shaft and you will also need a base tranny. You cant use a base intermediate shaft on an SH block with out the adapter plate. Like i said, its more work than you really need to do if you just went Euro-R or regular JDM H22.

why would you get the type s engine if you want to boost? the type s has 11:1 compression ratio, a lower compression would be better for your application, like a usdm h22a1 or 4 would be better suited/cheaper. With the extra coin you could do a better build for turbo.

Yeah, it's pretty much pointless to get the Type S engine if you're going to go boost. The whole reason why the Type S engine makes 20 more ponies is the upped compression. If you're boosting, you're most likely going to be lowering compression to 9:1 or 9.5:1, which defeats the purpose of the Type S engine.

ok thank my bad tho im very new to preludes' so i didnt kno that the 11:1 ratio is a bad thing but thank you alot wit the information......but when i get it do i need to change the power steering pump pulley to fit it into a 96 si and besides the intermediate shaft, are there any other conversion you would kno that i would prob need to do
