Swapping shocks, do I NEED to use a spring compressor?
Okay, its been a while since I've installed the springs. I've got EiBach Sportline on the STOCK shocks now and I want to swap in AGX shocks. My question is do I NEED a spring compressor to make the swap? I vaguely recall I only used a spring compressor to REMOVE the stock spring and that I did NOT use a compressor to bolt the EiBach back in since it was shorter. Just had my buddy push down the cap while I threaded on a nut. But this was a long time ago, can anyone who has done this more recently confirm this for me before I take apart my car? thanks.
I'm not sure how low the Eibachs are but I did the same thing with my Neuspeeds sports. No compressor was necessary when I went from the stocks to the AGXs. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
If you say that you didn't need a compressor to put the Sportlines on, then you don't need one just to swap out shocks.
If you want to swap in your original stock spring, then you will have to.

you don't need a spring compressor to take off Eibach sportlines off of stock shocks.. you DO need spring compressors to take off STOCK springs off of shocks... I just did this type of swap this weekend (eibach sportlines on Koni Yellows) and I did not need a spring compressor to take the Sportlines off of my friends stock shocks.. and did not need a spring compressor to put them onto the Konis..

Correct. you do not need a spring compressor at all. The only time you would need one would to put stock springs back on.

But it would help to have a spring compressor when taking the STOCK springs OFF, putting the shorter aftermarket springs back on should not require the compressor though. When I installed my prokits a few months ago, I needed the compressor to take off the stock shocks, but thats all I needed it for. OUT.
Spring compressors are so cheap I don't know why your even worried about it. Find out if you have a Harbor Freight near you. I bought a set of spring compressors from them for $9.99 and they worked just fine. You might want to 'spring' for the compressors.... huhuhuhuhuh he hmm... not so funny
