Default Timing belt on a B16A

I don't know the procedure for tightening the timing belt. I undid the manual tensioner and tightened it back up but the slack in the belt is the same. What are the correct steps to tighten it? Do I have to pull on the belt while tightening it? And how much slack is it suppose to have on each side? Thanks in advance.

Well there is more to it then that. You want to make sure that your cam gears are lined up properly or your car will not start/run. Its easy to do as there are 2 marks and you want to make sure they line up to one another. MOST MOST MOST MOST importantly when you take off the belt you want to make sure that your crank is TOP DEAD CENTER. if you lookl on the crank you will see 3 red dots and 1 single white dot. Also you will notice on the lower section of the casing that the adjust nut is on. There is a line that must line up with the white dot to ensure top dead center. Cause if anything gets/got turned while adjusting the belt and its not top dead center. You have a good chance at breaking or bending a valve.

But more generally to anwser your question. Loosen the belt, get it back on hoping that everything is allighned as said above and tighten it as mush as you can with the nut on the lower casing and once its started it will tighten itself a bit more. Also when you first start it leave the upper casing off to make sure that the belt doesnt skip at all

Sorry about the book, its easy for me to do but difficult to explain I guess in easy words!

Thanks. I got everything aligned. Didn't know that the belt is gonna get tighter once it's started. Seems sorta loose when the cam gears and crank are all aligned.
