Default Ignition Problem

Engine:

B16 head, ported, milled 30 thousandths
82x87
S2S2 cams
PR3 pistons
550cc RC injectors running E85
roughly 12.9 CR according to a CR calculator
Tuning with AEM EMS

Problem:

When we tried to tune the car under any load the car would break up bad. My tuner played with it for an hour while we cruised the streets and the problem seemed to get even worse. Since then i have taken the MSD **** off my distributer and put a regular coil in. Tried 2 coils, new rotor, plug wires. My plugs look fine.

Please tell me things to check/replace so i can get this beast to a track! And if more info about the setup is needed LMK!

Thanks HT.

tried a friends working dizzy, no change. Then i put a wideband on it and tried a pull. AFRs drop to low 10's when it breaks up. Im thinking that my tuners wideband sensor might have died when it was in my car?

Anyone have any other ideas? I will be trailering it to be tuned in a few days!

Do you have any idea what the AFR is supposed to be with E-85?

They are supposed to be the same... From my knowledge and all my friends that are tuned on it.

I made the post thinking that my AFRs would be on... I didnt even know i had a wideband in the garage... I guess my tuners sensor **** the bed when it was in my car? Sounds like some shitty luck.

stoich on ethonal is 9:1
if you were tuning in lambda you could compare your figures to typical gasoline figures but since you are tuning with AFR's and the wideband is setup for gasoline the numbers are bogus.

but from doing it like that in the past the engines will produce power by running anywhere from 11:1 to 13:1 depending on ignition timing.

if you recalibrated the wideband to ethonal like you can with the innovate unit you would get different figures.

so by running 10:1's like you are now on a gasoline AFR setting you are running pretty rich

From what I have read, he is doing it right. Don't all widebands read in lambda and it should automatically translate it to Air Fuel.

But anyways, have you tried switching to a different coil driver? It's easy to do with the AEM. Just wire coil 1 to coil 2, and activate the coil 2 in the software.

Your doing things right, get rid of all that MSD junk and get back to stock dizzy..and start going from there. Your headed in the right direction.

All i have is a plx wideband. I was going to try and lean it out a tad to see if that made anything better but i cannot get my laptop to connect to the EMS box. Also im kinda scared to mess with ****... At the same time i wanna bring my car to Jordan for tuning but i cant bring it there if its still going to have problems cuz thats just going to waste more time and money.

Pat do you think that running as rich as i am would cause the problem? I was told that gas and ethonal would yield the same AFRs.

yah if the AFR's are dropping to low 10:1's it is going to break up using that plx wideband

Problem is that also i cant get my laptop to connect to the ecu. I plan on dumping the MSD, its on the car because its what i had.

Im not sure about the coil drivers, I have messed around with AEM but not much. I try to leave that to the pros.
